Jan. 9, 2018

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Siena Women’s Basketball’s Emmanuella Edoka and Men’s Basketball's Evan Fisher have been named Siena College’s Leo Dufort Student Athletes of the Month for November. The two are being honored for their success in the classroom and on the court.

An Abuja, Nigeria native, Edoka earned her first MAAC Player of the Week honors on December 18 after recording her first double-double of 19 points and 17 rebounds against Sacred Heart. She followed that up with a repeat performance as the senior forward tallied 17 points and 12 rebounds against Hartford. Her 19 points and 17 rebounds stand as a career high after she drained eight field goals in the matchup. In the Albany Cup, Edoka recorded 11 points, seven of which came from the free throw line. Against reigning MAAC Champions, Quinnipiac, she grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds in her 30 minutes played.

Edoka boasts a 3.35 GPA in economics. This year she has completed 23 hours of community service, including building a house for Habitat for Humanity. Edoka participates in Siena’s Economics Students Association and International Students Association. This past summer she worked with the Community Policy Institute Program working with a non-profit called “Capital Roots” in Troy.

A Pasadena, MD native, Fisher leads the Saints in rebounding (5.5) and field goal percentage (.519). He recorded his first three career double digit scoring performances this season. He has played in all 17 games this season, while starting 14 for the Green and Gold. Fisher boasts a team-high 16 blocks and is fourth on the team with 21 assists.

Fisher holds a 3.04 GPA in management. He is a member of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) where he helps give student athletes an opportunity to generate a voice within Siena Athletics. Fisher has participated in eight hours worth of community service this year.

The Leo Dufort Student Athlete of the Month Award is presented nine times annually (September-May) throughout the academic year. The award recognizes exemplary achievements in both academics and athletics. The late Leo Dufort received a B.S. in marketing and management from Siena in August of 1977. His entire academic career was completed on a part-time basis beginning in the spring of 1961, as a married adult while at the same time raising five children. He passed away suddenly of a heart attack while cross country skiing in February of 1993. His wife Jeanine wanted to do something to immortalize his memory. The original plaque was donated to athletics and the department began the Leo Dufort Student Athlete of the Month Award to help carry out his legacy. Dufort graduated from Catholic Central High School in 1954, was a Navy Veteran (USS Bennington) who worked for JL Hammett Co. at the time of his death.
