LOUDONVILLE, NY - Siena Softball head coach Bill Lajeunesse has released the program's 2018 schedule. The Saints are scheduled to play 50 games this regular season.
"We feel like we've put together a very competitive and exciting schedule for our 2018 season," said Lajeunesse who enters his eighth season with the Saints. "We feel this non-conference schedule will challenge us in many different ways and prepare us leading up to MAAC play."
The Saints will open up the season on Friday, Feb.22 at 7 p.m. against Conference USA runner-up Florida International University (FIU) in Miami, Florida as a non-conference matchup. Followed by the FIU tournament starting on Feb. 23 at 11 a.m. where the Saints will battle FIU, Boston College, and National Invitational Softball Championships (NISC) runner-up Michigan State in a three day tournament.
Siena will then head north to Fairfax, VA where they will compete in the George Mason Tournament for the first time, starting on Mar. 9 and ending on Mar. 11. The Saints will also be competing in the George Washington University (GWU) Tournament over the course of three days battling GWU, Lafayette, and Brown starting on Mar. 16-18.
Rounding out non-conference tournament play, Siena Softball will compete in the Mount St. Mary's Tournament for the first time in Emmitsburg, MD where they will play four games over the course of two days starting on Mar. 24 against Mount St. Mary's and Morgan State. Ending the tournament on Mar. 25 starting at 10 a.m. against hometown rival UAlbany and ending against Mount St. Mary's at 2 p.m. The Saints will continue non-conference play on Mar. 27 in Washington D.C. against Howard followed by Towson on Mar. 28 in Towson, MD before finally returning back to Loudonville, NY.
Siena will have their home opener and open up MAAC play on Saturday, Mar. 31 as they host MAAC opponent Niagara in a doubleheader matchup starting at 12 p.m. In total, Siena will host 7 doubleheaders at Siena Field, including MAAC foes Manhattan (Apr. 8), Marist (Apr. 19), Quinnipiac (Apr. 21), and Saint Peter's (Apr. 28).
The MAAC Championships will include the top six teams and will be hosted by the Regular Season Champion from May 9-13.
The Saints ended with a 21-30 overall record, the program's seventh consecutive 20-win season and set a new program record with 14 MAAC conference wins. Siena also boasted its second ever Player of the Year winner in junior Madysen Cossack.
